The Opportunity
As a Staff Systems Engineer at Kandji, you will use your fluency in macOS, Apple device management, and programming languages to architect and deliver powerful, functional, automation-first tooling. You'll partner within and across engineering and product teams, driving innovation and technical excellence. We’re in search of a macOS expert with proven coding ability to build out robust, API-centric frameworks, and engineer impactful solutions to unlock dynamic new functionality for our users.

How you will make a difference day to day

  • Ideate, architect, and craft code-based solutions that broaden and simplify programmatic management of Kandji and macOS
  • Create and implement platform improvements through expanded capabilities around application customization and reduced friction with existing tooling
  • Become an authority on the codebase, driving improvements in automation, monitoring, and testing
  • Lead cross-team projects and initiatives, providing direct technical leadership informed by domain expertise and clear rationale
  • Contribute, review, and test code changes to drive platform development and evolution
  • Advocate for best practices across the team and organization; help colleagues grow through code reviews, documentation, technical guidance, and direct mentorship
  • Triage identified issues and ensure solutions are available to maintain platform stability

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years experience managing Apple devices as a Mac Admin/Client Platform Engineer
  • Deep mastery of macOS, particularly around software deployment, preference domains, and client-side MDM
  • Hands-on experience with tools like AutoPkg, Munki, Homebrew, Packages, Mist, VMware Fusion, Veertu Anka, UTM, etc.
  • Exceptional proficiency in Python, Zsh/Bash, and macOS command line utilities, with an ability to architect and contribute code for new features and proof of concepts
  • Comprehensive understanding of semi-structured data types and how to manipulate them
  • Working knowledge of RESTful APIs, object storage, automation pipelines, and GitOps practices
  • Strong familiarity with version control, code reviews, and agile methodologies/tools
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a methodical and data-driven approach to quickly deconstruct and address issues as they arise
  • Strong emotional intelligence, excellent interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, with the ability to explain complex topics in easy to understand and concise language
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Required to work on-site 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) in San Francisco or 4 days a week (Monday through Thursday) in Miami. Managers may require additional on-site days.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a statically-typed language (e.g. Swift, ObjC, Rust)
  • Experience with modern Python web frameworks (e.g. Django, FastAPI)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure)
