About Goose
Goose is the AI-powered operating system for multi-service pet care businesses, including boarding, daycare, grooming, training, and veterinary. Our platform brings booking, operations, workforce, payments, and retail into a single system that simplifies operations, improves the customer experience, and unlocks revenue growth. Headquartered in Chicago and built by pet care professionals and startup veterans, we combine modern technology with deep industry expertise to serve an essential but historically underserved market.
Backed by leading vertical software and fintech investors, we recently closed our Series A and are growing rapidly, with strong retention and accelerating adoption among multi-location operators and private-equity-backed platforms. We are hiring our first Head of Finance to build the financial engine behind a fast-scaling software and payments business and to help shape the company's next stage of growth.
What You'll Do
- Own budgeting, rolling forecasts, long-range planning, and the three-statement financial model that connects SaaS and payments revenue to cash flow, profitability, and runway.
- Lead the financial performance of the payments business, including gross payment volume, net take rate, processor costs, interchange, and contribution margin, while identifying opportunities to expand margins as volume scales.
- Lead the monthly close and financial reporting process, including revenue recognition across software and payments, while strengthening billing, reconciliation, payroll, and expense management processes.
- Build bottoms-up revenue forecasts tied to pipeline, hiring, and sales productivity, and partner with go-to-market leadership on pricing, unit economics, and commission design.
- Prepare board and investor materials, present financial performance and key operating metrics, and support fundraising through financial modeling, diligence, and data room preparation.
- Partner closely with the CEO on capital allocation, cash management, strategic planning, and long-term financial strategy.
- Build and lead the finance organization over time, beginning with key hires across FP&A, accounting, and business operations as the company scales.
What We're Looking For
- 6+ years of experience, with foundational training in investment banking, private equity, corporate development, consulting, or Big Four, followed by finance leadership experience at a high-growth, venture-backed software company. Vertical SaaS experience strongly preferred.
- Deep expertise in SaaS finance, including subscription metrics, revenue recognition, ARR, customer economics, and financial modeling that connects operational performance to financial outcomes.
- Experience with payments, fintech, or embedded finance, including net take rate, processor economics, interchange, and the operational workflows that drive billing, reconciliation, and gross margin.
- Proven success building FP&A capabilities and financial infrastructure in a scaling business, including board reporting, fundraising, budgeting, forecasting, and investor support.
- Systems oriented with experience improving financial reporting, KPI visibility, data quality, and business processes while partnering effectively with outsourced accounting firms and cross-functional teams.
- Strong executive presence and communication skills with the ability to influence decisions across the leadership team, present to the board and investors, and translate complex financial concepts into actionable business insights.
- Hands-on and entrepreneurial. Comfortable building the model yourself, solving problems with limited resources, and scaling the finance organization as the company grows.
What We Offer
- A seat at the leadership table alongside the CEO and Co-Founder, owning the finance function end to end as Goose’s most senior finance leader.
- The opportunity to build the finance organization from the ground up and grow into a long-term executive leadership role as the company scales.
- Broad ownership across the business, partnering with product, go-to-market, engineering, and operations while leading fundraising, payments strategy, and long-term financial planning.
- The chance to help build one of the defining software companies in the $150B+ pet care industry alongside an experienced team of operators, builders, and industry experts.
- Competitive compensation, including a base salary of $170,000 to $200,000, meaningful equity participation, and significant opportunity for long-term wealth creation.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage (Goose pays 85% of employee and 60% of dependent premiums), a 401(k), disability and life insurance, flexible paid time off, and five company holidays.
This range reflects the base salary compensation Goose reasonably expects to pay for this role. Where an individual candidate lands within the range is based on job-related factors such as skills, experience, and qualifications. This role is also eligible equity along with full benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance, PTO, etc
