ABOUT PRECISION NEUROSCIENCE

Precision Neuroscience is building a next-generation brain–computer interface (BCI) to heal and empower millions of people living with neurological conditions.

Our first product, Layer 7, is designed to help people with severe paralysis operate digital devices using only their thoughts—opening up new possibilities for daily life.

Our team brings together experts in neurosurgery, AI and machine learning, microfabrication, electrical engineering, clinical science, and more. We combine deep technical rigor with a people-first mindset to turn breakthrough research into real-world medical solutions.

As a Precision employee, you’ll join one of the fastest-moving and best-capitalized companies in the emerging field of brain–computer interfaces. Since our founding in 2021, we have raised more than $180 million, advanced our technology through validation, and initiated human trials with leading hospitals across the country.

Our Values:

We build for human impact, measuring progress by the lives our work can change.

We do no harm, holding ourselves to the highest standards of safety, integrity, and responsibility.

We innovate with urgency because the stakes are high and our users can’t wait.

We bring sharp minds, open ears, pairing expertise with curiosity, humility, and respect.

And we lead the way, taking ownership of our work and helping to shape the future of our field.

We are seeking a Senior Product Designer to lead the end-to-end design effort for a co-developed clinical decision support tool, shaping how neurosurgeons interact with real-time brain mapping at the point of care.

In this role, you will work at the intersection of complex clinical environments and cutting-edge neurotechnology, owning design from user research through to polished, high-stakes surgical interfaces — partnering closely with neurosurgeons, engineers, and an external life science collaborator to define a product that enhances intraoperative decision-making.

This position will be based in one of our existing offices in Seattle, New York, Chicago or Santa Clara. For exceptional candidates, we are able to consider remote workers. We are unable to consider individuals who are not currently based in the US and legally authorized to work in the US. This role will require up to 20% travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the full design lifecycle across both hardware and software workstreams, from early discovery and concept through detailed design, prototyping, and delivery

  • Lead user research with neurosurgeons and clinical teams to deeply understand intraoperative workflows, environmental constraints, and unmet needs

  • Translate research insights into clear design principles, interaction models, and visual frameworks that guide the product experience

  • Design intuitive, high-clarity interfaces for real-time surgical visualization, including functional and structural brain mapping displays

  • Define and evolve the physical design of hardware components, considering ergonomics, sterility, and operating room context

  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Product Manager, engineering, and external life science partners to ensure design decisions are technically feasible and clinically meaningful

  • Build and maintain design systems, prototypes, and documentation that support fast iteration and cross-functional alignment

  • Advocate for the end user — the surgeon — in all product and technical discussions, grounding decisions in research and clinical evidence

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • 3-5 years of product design experience, with a strong portfolio spanning UX, UI, and ideally hardware or physical product design

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and synthesize user research, particularly in complex professional or technical environments

  • Experience designing data-dense, real-time interfaces where clarity and speed of comprehension are critical — medical, scientific, or industrial contexts are a strong plus

  • Familiarity with the physical and regulatory constraints of designing for clinical or surgical environments

  • Proficiency in modern design and prototyping tools (Figma or equivalent); experience with 3D or industrial design tools is a bonus

  • Strong cross-functional collaborator, comfortable working alongside hardware engineers, software developers, regulatory teams, and external partners

  • Ability to communicate design rationale clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Experience in healthcare, medical devices, or regulated life sciences environments is preferred; genuine curiosity about clinical workflows is essential
