About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Director of Software Engineering to lead our Bangalore-based security engineering team within the Trust and Infrastructure organization. You will drive the design, development, and operation of large-scale distributed security systems that protect Salesforce's Commercial and Government Cloud environments.
As a thought leader in security engineering, you will build a high-performance team of ~10 engineers, define technical strategy, manage stakeholder relationships across the company, and drive cross-company security and engineering initiatives. This position requires overlapping work hours with US-based teams 2-3 times per week.

Our organization is responsible for security controls across Salesforce's Commercial and Government Cloud environments. We own critical security infrastructure including endpoint protection, vulnerability scanning, cloud security posture management, intrusion detection, and infrastructure guardrails—protecting thousands of hosts and cloud resources serving millions of customers globally

Required Qualifications
Experience
12+ years in software engineering with 5+ years leading engineering teams at senior/director level
Proven track record building high-performance teams with measurable delivery impact
Success driving cross-company initiatives in complex, matrixed organizations
Technical Expertise

Deep expertise designing and operating large-scale distributed systems:
Distributed consensus, event-driven architectures, microservices patterns
Data partitioning, sharding, replication strategies
Service mesh architectures and inter-service communication
Distributed tracing, logging, metrics aggregation
Strong programming skills in 2+ languages (Python, Go, Java, etc)
Database expertise (SQL, NoSQL, data warehouses, search)
Deep expertise in database systems and data architecture: designing schemas, optimizing queries, ensuring compliance, and maintaining data integrity across multiple data sources in distributed environments
Experience managing complex data pipelines aggregating security telemetry from 50+ sources while maintaining data integrity, deduplication, and correlation at scale
Track record building and scaling integration platforms while maintaining data consistency, security, and observability
Proven ability to design data models and integration patterns for asset inventory systems that maintain accuracy and freshness across diverse data sources
Proficiency with AI/ML for security automation, anomaly detection, and infrastructure optimization
Deep understanding of cloud platforms, infrastructure-as-code, containerization, and orchestration
Leadership & Communication
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence senior leadership
Exceptional stakeholder management and prioritization skills
Demonstrated strategic thinking with ability to execute multi-year technical vision
Comfortable navigating difficult conversations and driving alignment
Logistics
Willingness to maintain overlapping hours with US teams 2-3 times per week
Preferred Qualifications
Asset inventory, ownership, and metadata integrations experience
Security engineering experience (endpoint protection, vulnerability management, CSPM)
DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure automation background
Experience in regulated environments (FedRAMP, DoD IL5, SOC2)
Managing distributed teams across geographies
Thought leadership via conference talks, publications, or open-source contributions
Chaos engineering and distributed system debugging experience
Leading large-scale, multi-quarter cross-company initiatives
