Description
Salesforce is seeking a talented and driven Senior Director of Government Affairs to support and advance the company's congressional engagement strategy. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Government and Global Public Affairs, this role is a key executor of Salesforce's federal legislative agenda — with particular depth in defense authorization, appropriations, and congressional outreach. The ideal candidate brings strong Hill relationships, hands-on knowledge of the NDAA and appropriations process, and the ability to move quickly in a dynamic legislative environment. A zest for politics and a good sense of humor go a long way here.
What You'll Do
Collaborate with Missionforce and Government Affairs leadership in the development and implementation of Salesforce's federal affairs strategy, with a focus on congressional engagement
Track, analyze, and report on legislative developments related to the NDAA, defense appropriations, technology policy, and other company policy priorities — translating complex legislative activity into clear, actionable insights for internal stakeholders
Cultivate and leverage working relationships with congressional staff andMembers across relevant committees — regularly engaging across the aisle
Build and maintain systems to effectively monitor legislative activity and identify prime opportunities for engagement; drafting legislative memos, hearing prep, leave-behinds, and briefing documents to ensure we make the most of these moments
Support coalition-building efforts and represent Salesforce in relevant trade associations and industry working groups
Assist in coordinating Salesforce's political engagement activities and ensure the program is both strategic and accountable relative the company’s reputation and interests
Partner with internal teams — Public Policy, Legal, Public Affairs, and various business units — to ensure federal priorities are well-integrated and consistently communicated
Support Salesforce's business partners and public sector sales teams by providing federal policy context that helps unlock government opportunities and navigate risk
Periodically engage with third party stakeholders, thought leaders, and politicos beyond traditional centers of power to build a broad federal affairs network of influence
Develop and maintain Salesforce's positioning on key technology policy issues including cybersecurity, IT modernization, privacy, and AI adoption and governance
Stay current on shifting leadership and legislative dynamics, particularly as midterm results reshape Congress and alter legislative prospects
What We're Looking For
10 years of experience in federal government affairs, congressional affairs, or a related field
Congressional experience strongly preferred — prior role as a Hill staffer, committee staff, or in a federal agency with significant congressional interaction
Deep working knowledge of the NDAA and federal appropriations process, with the ability to track and engage across the full legislative cycle
Familiarity with defense policy, federal technology procurement, cybersecurity, IT modernization, and privacy — and the legislative vehicles that drive them
Cross-industry experience a strong plus — candidates who have navigated the federal legislative landscape across defense, technology, or adjacent sectors will stand out
Relationships with staff on the House and Senate Armed Services Committees and/or Appropriations Committees a strong plus
Strong bipartisan political instincts and situational awareness — able to identify moments of leverage and flag risks early
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable drafting materials for C-suite audiences
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
Experience in the private sector, trade association, or advocacy organization preferred
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in law, public policy, or related field a plus
