About the Department

The Digital Enterprise Technology (DET) Strategic Portfolio Management team helps Salesforce scale by aligning our strategic investment portfolio with business strategy and optimizing value realization across the enterprise. We provide value-oriented planning processes, quality portfolio-level data for strategic decision making, and amazing customer service to support delivery. We enable DET leaders to envision our future, ruthlessly prioritize, drive collaboration, showcase the value of our work, and guide transformative initiatives.

About the Role

The Senior Manager, Strategic Portfolio Management aligns company objectives with our portfolio of pillar initiatives, programs, and investments. This role ensures that funding, resources, and execution within DET Pillars are prioritized to deliver maximum business value and drive organization-wide innovation.

Acting as a strategic thought partner to Pillar Portfolio Managers, you will help bridge the gap between strategy and delivery through rigorous oversight and performance tracking. A key focus of this role is Process Governance and Excellence, translating abstract concepts into actionable frameworks that streamline portfolio reporting and ensure measurable success.

Your Impact - Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and evangelize a unified framework for initiative data management that scales across the portfolio ecosystem.

  • Lead the creation and adoption of foundational playbooks and assets to ensure a seamless, consistent experience for all portfolio teams and stakeholders.

  • Establish comprehensive guardrails and stage-gate processes to maintain portfolio integrity.

  • Implement oversight mechanisms and audit trails that facilitate early risk detection and ensure all investments align with organizational quality standards throughout their lifecycle.

  • Define and govern the master taxonomy and metadata standards for portfolio and operational data.

  • Partner cross-functionally with Pillar Managers and technical teams to identify friction points in current data workflows; co-create streamlined processes that reduce administrative burden while increasing data quality.

  • Act as the primary authority for data integrity, ensuring a reliable "Source of Truth" that supports high-fidelity reporting and automated insights across the organization.

  • Drive organizational excellence through regular evaluations of portfolio performance and process adherence.

  • Leverage data-driven audits to provide strategic feedback to leadership, identifying opportunities to optimize workflows and enhance overall operational maturity.

  • Support annual and quarterly portfolio planning, prioritization, and rebalancing processes by providing data and feedback for process improvement.

  • Maintain a forward-looking view of the portfolio to anticipate dependencies, resource constraints, and market impacts.

  • Provide executive insights and recommendations to guide strategic trade-offs and capital allocation.

  • Define and manage key portfolio performance indicators (e.g., value realization, time-to-market, resource utilization, risk exposure).

  • Drive adoption of enterprise tools and analytics for portfolio visibility and scenario planning.

  • Build a collaborative teaming environment that champions creativity, innovation, and learning.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of professional work experience in strategic planning, portfolio management, or enterprise PMO leadership roles within a large, complex, or global organization — preferably in high tech, SaaS, or digital industries.

  • Proven success in leading enterprise portfolio governance, investment prioritization, and large-scale transformation initiatives.

  • Expertise in managing multimillion-dollar budget lifecycles, utilizing quantitative analysis to steer capital allocation and ensure maximum ROI on high-stakes technology investments.

  • Expertise in agile portfolio management, capacity management, product lifecycle management, and/or strategy execution frameworks.

Required Qualifications

  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical, decision-making, and influencing skills.

  • Exceptional communication and executive presentation abilities.

  • Demonstrated success leading through ambiguity and driving alignment across diverse stakeholders; able to work well in a cross-functional, matrix management environment.

  • Ability to effectively manage scenario and capcity planning across competing demands and changing priorities.

  • Deep understanding of innovation, product, and technology ecosystems.

  • Strategic and tactical abilities to document and analyze metrics and data.

  • Ability to identify trends, opportunities, gaps, and best practices across multiple portfolio and product teams.

  • Strong facilitation skills, ensuring teams are continuously adapting and improving productivity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications a plus (e.g., PMP, PgMP, SAFe, PMI-ACP, or similar portfolio/program management credentials)
