Description
About the Team The Enterprise Trust team is at the forefront of protecting how work gets done. As Slack continues to scale across the world's largest organizations, our core mission is to make enterprises more secure and ensure they remain strictly compliant with complex global standards.
We own the Enterprise Security domain for Slack. Because our platform handles highly sensitive data for Fortune 100 companies, we are responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the mission-critical security and compliance features that large-scale enterprises demand. Our core surface areas include SSO, DLP, SCIM, IDR, EKM, Data Retention, and comprehensive Audit Logs.
Our team ensures that as Slack evolves, the underlying identity management, data governance, and security protocols remain rock solid. We are a team of product-driven backend engineers who deeply care about the user experience—even in security. We build systems and design APIs with both the end-user and the enterprise admin in mind. You will be instrumental in designing systems that are scalable, performant, and perfectly tailored to real enterprise needs, making smart trade-offs between speed, cost, and usability, while understanding that simplicity and reliability are carefully calculated aspects of security design.
Our Tech Stack We build our app using reliable tools our team knows and trusts: PHP/Hack, Java, MySQL, and Linux. Expertise here is a huge plus, but familiarity with other common web languages (Python, Ruby, Go, C) and relational databases are excellent substitutes.
What You Will Be Doing
- Innovate & Build: Brainstorm with Product Managers, Designers, and fellow Engineers to conceptualize and build new enterprise security and compliance features for our massive, growing user base.
- Deliver Impact: Produce high-quality code and contribute heavily to projects that secure the Slack platform and drive significant business value by unblocking enterprise adoption.
- System Ownership: Actively own core security features or systems (like our SSO, SCIM, or EKM architecture), define their long-term health, and improve surrounding infrastructure.
- Operational Excellence: Assist our skilled support and operations teams in triaging and resolving production issues to maintain high availability.
- Level Up the Team: Mentor other engineers, provide deep code reviews, and elevate our engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
What You Should Have
- Experience: 7+ years of professional experience building web applications.
- Technical Chops: Proficiency in functional or imperative programming languages (e.g., PHP, Java, Python, Ruby, Go, or C).
- CS Fundamentals: Solid grasp of data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and information retrieval.
- Architecture & Design: Ability to drive technical decisions, contribute to architecture discussions, and write understandable, testable, and maintainable code.
- Communication: Strong ability to explain complex technical concepts to designers, support staff, and other engineers.
- Education: A related technical degree is required.
