Description
As a Lead/Principal Engineer on the Hyperforce Networking team, you will design and implement the software-defined networking infrastructure for one of the largest enterprise applications ever built on the public cloud. Our team is responsible for the mission-critical fabric that enables Salesforce to operate at an unprecedented global scale.
You will lead the development of high-performance networking services, with a focus on building a truly multi-substrate, dual-stack (IPv4/IPv6) foundation. A primary building block of this infrastructure is our next-generation Automated IPAM (IP Address Management) system, which enables self-service, API-driven provisioning across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Your work will eliminate legacy bottlenecks like rigid subnetting, allowing us to deploy with unparalleled speed and lean architectural efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shape the Future of Cloud Networking
- Architect Global Infrastructure: Design and operate Tier 0/1 networking services that power Salesforce’s massive public cloud footprint, ensuring they are resilient to regional failures and support seamless Disaster Recovery (DR).
- Build Scalable Networking Blocks: Lead the development of critical infrastructure services, including next-gen Dual-Stack IPAM, ensuring automated, self-service IP provisioning across all cloud substrates.
- Optimize Cloud Connectivity: Transform how our services connect by reducing reliance on complex private links and egress gateways, moving toward a streamlined, software-defined network fabric.
- Modernize with IPv6: Drive the adoption of IPv6-native and dual-stack architectures, ensuring the IPAM and routing layers are ready for the next decade of cloud growth.
- Innovate with Open Source: Leverage and contribute to cutting-edge projects to build observability and control into the heart of the network.
- Attributes of a Successful Candidate
- Massive-Scale Mindset: You are excited by the challenge of building infrastructure for an application that serves millions of users across multiple public clouds.
- Systems Architect: You view networking as a distributed systems problem, prioritizing self-healing, automation, and API-first design.
- L3-L7 Expert: Deep proficiency in the OSI stack, specifically L3 (BGP, IPv4/IPv6 routing), L4 (TCP/UDP performance), and L7 (TLS, DNS, DDOS prevention/mitigation).
- Operational Leader: Experience owning mission-critical services where downtime is not an option, with a strong focus on telemetry and data-driven reliability.
Requirements
- 8+ years of proven experience designing, developing, debugging, and operating resilient distributed systems that run across thousands of compute nodes in multiple data centers, with a focus on Networking technologies
- Expert-level coding in Golang, Python, or C/C++ in a Linux/UNIX environment.
- Distributed Systems: Proven experience building and operating resilient, high-availability services at scale.
- Networking Expertise: Advanced knowledge of IP networking, including IPv6 prefix delegation, prefix management, and cloud-native networking primitives.
- Production Ownership: Experience owning Tier 0/1 services, including designing for Disaster Recovery and multi-region failover.
- Agile Leadership: Experience in Agile/Scrum environments with a commitment to Test-Driven Development and high code quality.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A related Technical degree required
