Ninja Van Legal Team wishes to bring on board a commercially-savvy Senior Legal Counsel to augment the legal team's capabilities and capacity. Key responsibilities include advising the Company on a wide range of complex corporate, regulatory and other legal matters, identifying and mitigating legal risks, drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial contracts to ensure successful closings, and managing external legal counsels. The Senior Legal Counsel is expected to be a highly self-motivated individual, proficient in communication and capable of operating independently. The Senior Legal Counsel will report to Malaysia Country Legal Head, and is expected to collaborate with all business units.

The Senior Legal Counsel will:

  • Be a strategic business partner to key stakeholders of the Company’s business units to ensure informed business decisions are made in evaluating commercial opportunities and to effectively mitigate commercial legal risks.
  • Enable Company’s business operations through high quality legal advice, contract drafting and negotiation skills, solutioning of complex legal risks and issues, manage due diligence exercises, and set realistic expectations on timelines and costs, while also providing practical solutions.
  • Provide solutioning of legal risks, disputes and related matters through legal research, advocacy, investigation, and legal drafting.
  • Drive compliance with relevant internal policies and contracting requirements through training and other communication modes and implementing legal templates and legal-related processes through communications, audits and post-audit remedial actions.
  • Continuously identify and assess legal and regulatory risks impacting the Company’s business operations.
  • Manage corporate housekeeping and company secretarial matters.
  • Perform other legal and compliance related duties tasked from time-to-time.

Requirements

  • Law degree from a leading university in the common law jurisdiction. A master’s degree in law is a plus.
  • Malaysian qualified lawyer with a minimum of 8 years’ PQE (gained at top tier law firm and in-house counsel experience of at least 3 years for a multinational company).
  • Excellent spoken and written English and Malay.
  • Excellent legal drafting skills with significant experience and expertise in complex commercial and corporate related matters. Strong negotiation, planning, prioritization and project management skills.
  • Experienced in implementing legal templates, processes and policies, risks identification and mitigation, and managing dispute resolution.
  • Strong awareness of changes in law and corporate governance best practices globally.
  • Adaptable, analytical, strong attention to detail, self-motivated, highly independent, possess sound commercial judgment and ability to work under pressure and to cope with unexpected and varied demands.
