About the Role
Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will serve as the senior accounting and financial operations leader at Labviva. This is a highly visible, hands-on role for a seasoned accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced growth environment and wants to build and scale world-class controllership functions. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in building, improving, optimizing, and scaling accounting and financial control systems across a growing organization, and will inspire confidence through technical rigor, credibility, and a bias toward continuous improvement. You will own the full spectrum of controllership operations—accounting, audit, tax, treasury, and insurance—while partnering closely with the CFO and executive leadership to ensure financial integrity, compliance, and operational excellence across the business.
How you will Contribute:
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Responsible for all accounting activities, including hands-on responsibility for technical accounting, statutory reporting, treasury, and insurance.
- Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and month-end/year-end close. This includes oversight of 3 direct reports as well as an internationally-based financial operations team.
- Prepare and review journal entries and provide hands-on support to the accounting team across AP, G/L, and payroll as necessary, including performing period-end reviews to ensure accurate and complete financial records.
- Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial statements in compliance with US GAAP, including all statutory reporting obligations.
- Provide sound financial guidance to company personnel on purchasing decisions and contract negotiations, ensuring financial discipline is consistent across the organization.
- Advise on the accounting impact of financing activities such as equity fundraising, collaboration negotiations, and debt financing.
- Manage relationships with banking partners, external accountants, financial service vendors, and equity management vendors.
Audit & Internal Controls
- Lead the annual audit process, including interfacing directly with external auditors to ensure a transparent and complete audit outcome.
- Strengthen existing internal financial control systems and propose, create, and maintain internal control policies to support scale and compliance.
- Perform and oversee period-end reviews to ensure accurate, complete, and timely financial records in accordance with company policy and US GAAP.
- Ensure readiness for future audits by maintaining well-organized, audit-ready financial records and documentation at all times.
Tax & Compliance
- Manage federal, state, and local tax compliance including income tax, sales tax, and R&D tax credits, in coordination with external tax advisors.
- Oversee transfer pricing, international tax matters, and any multi-jurisdictional tax obligations as the company scales globally.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all regulatory and statutory requirements relevant to a Series C technology company.
- Ensure accounting policies and practices comply with US GAAP and all applicable company controls.
Treasury, Insurance & Cash Management
- Manage the company’s cash position, working capital, and treasury operations to ensure adequate liquidity at all times.
- Oversee cash flow reporting and support fundraising and capital allocation activities in partnership with the CFO.
- Manage the company’s insurance portfolio, ensuring appropriate coverage across general liability, D&O, E&O, cyber, and other relevant policies.
- Maintain and deepen relationships with banking and financial institution partners.
Systems, Process & Technology
- Lead the setup, administration, and ongoing optimization of the ERP (ideally with SAP experience) and related financial systems to drive continual improvements in process and efficiency.
- Evaluate and manage relationships with third-party financial tools (e.g., expense management platforms, payroll systems, equity accounting solutions) with a mindset of leveraging technology to automate and scale.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement—proactively identifying opportunities to streamline processes, introduce AI and automation, reduce manual effort, and improve data. accuracy across the finance function.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Leadership
- Build relationships cross-functionally to foster collaboration and financial literacy both inside and outside of finance.
- Support investor relations and board reporting activities in partnership with the CFO, including preparation of financial materials for due diligence processes.
- Recruit, mentor, and grow a high-performing accounting team as the company scales, including on and off-site team members.
What you bring to the Team:
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior controllership or accounting leadership role.
- Prior experience at a high-growth SaaS or technology company; startup or Series A–C experience strongly preferred.
- Deep expertise in GAAP accounting, financial reporting, audit management, and internal controls.
- Proven track record of managing audits, tax compliance, statutory reporting, and treasury/insurance functions.
- Demonstrated understanding of technical accounting principles and the ability to apply them to new and existing transactions.
- Demonstrated ability to advise on the accounting implications of equity fundraising, debt financing, and commercial agreements.
- Proven ability to produce timely and accurate results within tight timeframes while managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a high attention to detail and a desire to challenge the status quo and drive continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally and communicate complex accounting concepts clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Preferred
- CPA designation strongly preferred.
- Audit experience at a Big 4 or other nationally recognized public accounting firm strongly preferred.
- Experience with NetSuite, Sage Intacct, SAP, or comparable ERP systems; prior experience standing up or migrating ERP systems is a significant plus. Experience integrating AI into. financial operations is a significant plus.
- Familiarity with equity accounting solutions (e.g., Carta, Pulley) and payroll platforms.
- Experience supporting fundraising rounds, investor due diligence, or M&A transactions from an accounting and compliance perspective.
- Background in life sciences, healthcare technology, or B2B SaaS environments.
- Marketplace or e-commerce platform experience is a plus, given Labviva’s supplier marketplace model.
- International finance or multi-entity/multi-jurisdiction accounting experience is a plus.
- MBA or advanced degree in Accounting or Finance is a plus.
