We are seeking a seasoned Director of Data Engineering to sit within our Analytics team and serve as the organization’s healthcare data subject matter expert (SME). This leader will partner closely with Data Engineering, Customer Delivery, and Platform teams to ensure that data assets are accurate, reliable, and aligned to healthcare industry best practices.
More than a traditional engineering role, this position calls for someone with deep hands-on experience across payer claims, pharmacy (Rx), clinical/EHR data, and hospital revenue cycle data—able to prescribe best practices, validate progress, instill discipline, and guarantee data quality at every stage.
A Day in the Life
Strategic Leadership
- Define and evolve the data engineering standards and practices within the Analytics team.
- Act as the healthcare data SME, ensuring adherence to payer, provider, and hospital revenue cycle standards as well as regulatory frameworks (CMS, HIPAA, HEDIS, RAF/HCC, etc.).
- Serve as the bridge between Analytics and Data Engineering, Customer Delivery, and Platform teams, aligning on goals and execution.
Discipline & Cultural Shift
- Establish rigor and discipline across all data engineering and implementation efforts, driving consistency in how projects are designed, executed, and validated.
- Lead the organization through a critical cultural shift—from ad hoc, reactive processes to a systematic, quality-first approach to healthcare data engineering.
- Embed a mindset of accountability, quality, and repeatability across teams and projects.
Best Practice Stewardship
- Prescribe engineering and modeling best practices across diverse healthcare data sets (payer claims, Rx, clinical/EHR, hospital revenue cycle, and reference data).
- Establish validation and data quality frameworks that safeguard accuracy, completeness, and reliability.
Translate healthcare domain complexity into scalable, trustworthy data pipelines and models.
Operational Excellence
- Validate progress on cross-team data initiatives, ensuring technical solutions meet both quality and business needs.
- Promote consistency in data definitions, lineage, and governance across teams.
Oversee testing, monitoring, and documentation practices that ensure sustainable, production-grade data assets.
Collaboration & Mentorship
- Partner with Customer Delivery teams to ensure client implementations meet healthcare and revenue cycle data standards.
- Collaborate with Platform and Data Engineering teams to scale infrastructure and optimize for performance.
- Mentor team members on both technical approaches and healthcare data literacy, raising the bar across the organization.
What You Need
- 10+ years in data engineering and/or data management, with 5+ years in healthcare analytics leadership.
- Extensive experience with a wide variety of healthcare data: payer claims (medical & eligibility), pharmacy (Rx), clinical/EHR, and hospital revenue cycle.
- Proven ability to enforce data governance, discipline, and quality assurance practices at scale.
- Excellent communicator, able to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Track record of thought leadership in healthcare data best practices.
- Strong expertise in data modeling, cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, etc.), and modern orchestration tools.
We offer competitive benefits to set you up for success in and outside of work.
