Harness is the AI Software Delivery Platform company, led by technologist and entrepreneur Jyoti Bansal (founder of AppDynamics, acquired by Cisco for $3.7B). Harness has raised approximately $570M in funding and is valued at $5.5B, backed by leading investors including Goldman Sachs, Menlo Ventures, IVP, Unusual Ventures, Citi Ventures, and more. As AI accelerates code creation, the real bottleneck has shifted to everything after the code – testing, deployments, application security, reliability, compliance, and cost optimization. Harness brings AI and automation to this “outer loop,” helping teams ship software faster while maintaining security and governance throughout the entire software delivery lifecycle.

Powered by Harness AI and the Software Delivery Knowledge Graph, the Harness Platform applies deep context and intelligent automation across the software delivery lifecycle with governance and policy-driven controls embedded throughout the platform.

Over the past year, Harness powered over 185M deployments, 82M builds, 18T flag evaluations, 8M security scans, 9.1B optimized tests, 3T protected API calls, and helped manage $2.8B in cloud spend — enabling customers like United Airlines, Morningstar, and Choice Hotels to accelerate releases by up to 75%, reduce cloud costs by up to 60%, and achieve 10x DevOps efficiency.

With a global team across 26 offices and 27 countries, Harness is shaping the future of AI software delivery — and we’re looking for exceptional talent to help us move even faster.

About the Role

Harness is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Cloud and AI Cost Management (CACM) team. This role is ideal for a technical leader who enjoys driving architecture, influencing engineering strategy, and delivering scalable cloud-native solutions while building a high-performing team. You will play a key role in shaping the technical direction of the CACM platform, partnering with engineers, architects, and product leaders to deliver innovative capabilities that help customers optimize and govern both cloud and AI infrastructure spend.

What You'll Do

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Drive the technical vision and architecture for the Cloud and AI Cost Management platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Lead technical design discussions and provide architectural guidance for distributed systems built with Java, Go, Kubernetes, AWS, and GCP.
  • Partner closely with Architects and Staff Engineers to define engineering standards, review designs, and make key technology decisions.
  • Champion engineering excellence through high-quality code reviews, technical design reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Execution & Delivery

  • Lead the delivery of customer-facing capabilities, including AI-driven cost optimization, anomaly detection, multi-cloud governance, and AI infrastructure cost visibility.
  • Drive agile, iterative development with a strong customer feedback loop, balancing speed, quality, and long-term platform investments.
  • Own execution across the software development lifecycle, ensuring predictable delivery of high-impact initiatives.
  • Remove technical and organizational blockers while aligning engineering efforts with product priorities.

Engineering Excellence & Operations

  • Establish and maintain high standards for software quality, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Lead efforts to improve system performance, scalability, observability, and cloud infrastructure efficiency.
  • Drive best practices for production readiness, incident management, on-call operations, and post-incident improvements.
  • Track engineering metrics and implement processes that improve delivery, quality, platform reliability, and infrastructure cost efficiency.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Build, mentor, and grow a team of high-performing engineers through coaching, technical guidance, and career development.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, continuous learning, and engineering excellence.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and professional growth while enabling engineers to do their best work.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Product Management, SRE, Security, and other engineering teams to deliver enterprise-grade capabilities.
  • Collaborate across globally distributed teams to resolve dependencies, address customer escalations, and align on technical strategy.
  • Represent engineering in planning discussions and ensure technical decisions support long-term business objectives.

About You

  • 3+ years of experience leading high-performing engineering teams.
  • 5+ years building scalable SaaS backend applications using Java and/or Go.
  • Strong experience designing and building highly scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
  • Deep understanding of cloud-native technologies, including AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, and modern microservices architectures.
  • Proven ability to drive technical strategy, influence architecture, and deliver complex engineering initiatives.
  • Strong operational mindset with experience managing production systems, incident response, on-call processes, and reliability improvements.
  • Experience partnering with Product Management and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver customer-facing software.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across globally distributed teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Cloud and AI Cost Management, FinOps, AI infrastructure optimization, or cloud cost management platforms.
  • Experience building AI-powered platform capabilities or data-intensive backend services.
  • Experience leading incident management and authoring customer-facing Root Cause Analyses (RCAs).
  • Track record of driving engineering excellence, operational rigor, and continuous improvement.
  • Master's degree or equivalent practical experience.
