Harness is the AI Software Delivery Platform company, led by technologist and entrepreneur Jyoti Bansal (founder of AppDynamics, acquired by Cisco for $3.7B). Harness has raised approximately $570M in funding and is valued at $5.5B, backed by leading investors including Goldman Sachs, Menlo Ventures, IVP, Unusual Ventures, Citi Ventures, and more. As AI accelerates code creation, the real bottleneck has shifted to everything after the code – testing, deployments, application security, reliability, compliance, and cost optimization. Harness brings AI and automation to this “outer loop,” helping teams ship software faster while maintaining security and governance throughout the entire software delivery lifecycle.

Powered by Harness AI and the Software Delivery Knowledge Graph, the Harness Platform applies deep context and intelligent automation across the software delivery lifecycle with governance and policy-driven controls embedded throughout the platform.

Over the past year, Harness powered over 185M deployments, 82M builds, 18T flag evaluations, 8M security scans, 9.1B optimized tests, 3T protected API calls, and helped manage $2.8B in cloud spend — enabling customers like United Airlines, Morningstar, and Choice Hotels to accelerate releases by up to 75%, reduce cloud costs by up to 60%, and achieve 10x DevOps efficiency.

With a global team across 26 offices and 27 countries, Harness is shaping the future of AI software delivery — and we’re looking for exceptional talent to help us move even faster.

Position Summary

We are looking for a technically strong and operationally sharp Revenue Accounting Lead to be the engine behind our ASC 606 compliance, month-end close, revenue projects and controls framework. This role sits at the intersection of technical accounting and operational excellence. You bring experience across both private and public company environments and are comfortable owning processes end-to-end while partnering cross-functionally with DealOps, Business System, FP&A, Legal, and Product.

About the role

Revenue Close & Technical Accounting

  • Own and execute the monthly revenue close process, including contracts review, SSP analysis, contract modifications, multi-element arrangement accounting, and revenue disclosure under ASC 606.
  • Prepare and review revenue journal entries, reconciliations, and flux analyses with clear audit trails.
  • Partner with DealOps on contract review to assess revenue recognition implications prior to execution.

Controls, Compliance & Audit Readiness

  • Maintain and enforce a strong internal controls environment over revenue — document SOX-ready policies, procedures, and control narratives.
  • Lead coordination with external auditors for quarterly reviews and year-end audits; own PBC schedules and audit support for all revenue-related requests.
  • Monitor and interpret new accounting guidance (FASB, SEC) and assess impact on revenue policies.

Process Optimization & Systems

  • Identify and drive improvements to the revenue close process and routine tasks — reduce cycle time, eliminate manual work, and build scalable workflows.
  • Own revenue system integrity; work with Business System to ensure contracts and revenue data flows accurately into the GL (NetSuite or equivalent).
  • Build and maintain automated revenue schedules, reporting templates, and exception monitoring tools (Excel / Gsheets), ideally utilizing AI tools (Claude).

Cross-functional Partnership & Reporting

  • Prepare accurate, executive-ready revenue reporting packages and variance analyses for finance management.
  • Act as a trusted business partner to DealOps, Business System, FP&A, Legal, and Product.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members; set clear standards for work quality and documentation

About you

Required Experience & Skills

  • 4-6+ years of progressive revenue accounting experience, with demonstrated ownership of ASC 606 in a SaaS or software environment.
  • Experience in both private and public companies (or public-ready / Big 4-audited) settings — you understand the difference in rigor and documentation standards.
  • Hands-on expertise with month-end close ownership and audit process, not just participation.
  • Strong working knowledge of internal controls, SOX compliance, and audit coordination.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple competing deliverables and ruthlessly prioritizing focus in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills; experience with NetSuite, Salesforce, or comparable ERP/CRM systems.
  • CPA license plus (active or inactive).

Analytical & Critical Thinking

  • You identify root causes, not just symptoms — when a number looks off, you dig until you find why.
  • You can translate complex technical accounting conclusions into plain-language memos and policy documents that non-accountants can act on.
  • You proactively surface revenue risks and quantify their impact before they become audit findings.

Process & Operational Mindset

  • You don’t accept “that’s how we’ve always done it” — you look for leverage through automation, standardization, and better data flows.
  • You have built or meaningfully improved a revenue close process: documented the steps, found the bottlenecks, and shipped the fix.
  • You are comfortable operating in ambiguity and driving clarity in a fast-moving, resource-constrained environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Big 4 public accounting background with technology sector clients.
  • Experience through an IPO, M&A transaction, or significant systems implementation.
  • Familiarity with revenue automation tools (Zuora Revenue, RevPro, or NetSuite ARM).
  • Exposure to usage-based / consumption based models.
  • Savvy on AI tools to build automated workflows.

What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)

  • Close ownership fully transitioned — you are driving the revenue close independently by Month 2.
  • At least two material process improvements shipped and documented by Month 6.
  • Controls documentation updated to audit-ready standard; zero material weaknesses in next audit cycle.
  • Trusted cross-functional partner to DealOps and FP&A, with proactive deal review cadence established.

Work Location

  • Ideally we would like someone to work Hybrid from the Bay Area but we will consider qualified candidates we are remote within the US.

What you will have at Harness

  • Competitive salary
  • Comprehensive healthcare benefits
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Flexible Time Off and Parental Leave
  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual social and team building events
  • Monthly internet reimbursement
