Senior Developer Productivity Engineer
Harness
Position Summary
About the role
- Design, develop, implement, and maintain core developer tools and services (e.g., code coverage, code review, unit/contract test framework, artifact management) to create a seamless and low-friction Developer Experience (DevEx).
- Drive research, experimentation, and productionization of Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI tools to augment developer workflows, focusing on areas like code generation, intelligent testing, auto-documentation, and automated troubleshooting to dramatically improve efficiency and productivity.
- Lead the architecture and continuous improvement of our internal CI/CD pipelines (leveraging the Harness Platform) to ensure fast, reliable, and secure deployments.
- Identify and aggressively eliminate performance bottlenecks in large-scale build and test systems, implementing advanced caching, parallelization, and build graph optimizations to significantly reduce cycle time.
- Implement and manage tooling for code coverage and static/dynamic analysis, seamlessly integrating them into the pipeline and code review process.
- Partner with feature teams, acting as an empathetic consultant and platform advocate. You measure your success by the success of your internal customers (our developers), providing guidance, reducing their toil, and ensuring they have the best environment to ship code.
- Define, track, and report on key developer productivity and platform health metrics (e.g., DORA metrics). Implement robust monitoring, logging, and tracing to provide deep visibility into developer platform reliability and performance.
About you
- 5-8 years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on Developer Productivity, DevOps, or Product Engineering.
- Strong proficiency in at least one major language used for backend development and tooling (e.g., Go, Python, Java) and strong shell scripting skills.
- Deep, hands-on experience designing and operating Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery systems at scale. Practical knowledge of the Harness Platform is a significant plus.
- Extensive experience with build tools (Maven, Gradle, Bazel, or similar) and a proven track record of successfully implementing complex build tuning and optimization strategies.
