Description

Fervo is working to build the most cost-effective, repeatable geothermal power plants in the world. Scaling infrastructure at this level requires rigorous financial controls, disciplined capital accounting, and leaders who can build systems that last.

We are seeking a high-performing Senior Accountant who is ready to take on increasing ownership within a rapidly scaling organization. This role will lead critical components of the close process, strengthen our internal control environment, and help build scalable accounting infrastructure to support significant capital deployment. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to operate with leadership-level accountability — helping shape how the Accounting function evolves as Fervo grows.

As a Senior Accountant, you will own core general ledger activities, drive month-end close execution, and enhance Fervo’s internal control framework. You will partner closely with the Assistant Controller, Controller, and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and operational scalability.

This role offers meaningful exposure to infrastructure-scale project accounting, grant compliance, and financial statement preparation within a high-growth energy company.

Requirements

Responsibilities

Internal Controls & Process Architecture

  • Lead the design, documentation, and continuous improvement of internal controls across key accounting cycles, ensuring scalability, audit readiness, and alignment with long-term public-company standards.
  • Establish and formalize accounting policies and procedures, proactively identifying control gaps and operational risks while implementing durable, repeatable solutions.
  • Partner cross-functionally to embed financial discipline into evolving business processes, ensuring strong governance as capital deployment and operational complexity increase.
  • Drive system and workflow enhancements that improve accuracy, documentation quality, and efficiency across the accounting function.

Close Leadership, Reporting & Audit

  • Own critical components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timely, accurate financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Review complex journal entries, reconciliations, and account analyses, exercising sound technical judgment and maintaining high standards of documentation.
  • Lead analytical reviews of financial results, investigating variances and resolving issues with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Serve as a key liaison for external auditors, coordinating audit deliverables and ensuring timely, high-quality responses.

Capital & Operational Accounting

  • Oversee accounting for large-scale capital projects and infrastructure deployment, ensuring proper capitalization, cost tracking, and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Partner with FP&A and Operations to strengthen project cost controls and improve visibility into capital expenditures and budget-to-actual performance.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and audit support for complex transactions, including capitalized costs, revenue activities, and grant-related expenditures.
  • Continuously enhance processes supporting revenue recognition, invoicing, and compliance-driven accounting requirements.

Team and Culture

  • Demonstrate leadership-level ownership of financial integrity, operating with sound judgment and accountability in a high-growth, capital-intensive environment.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff, elevating documentation standards and technical execution across the team.
  • Collaborate effectively across Finance and operational teams to foster alignment, transparency, and disciplined execution.
  • Contribute to a culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement, and intellectual rigor within the Accounting organization.

Qualifications

Required

  • B.S. in Accounting or related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive general ledger accounting experience, including significant exposure to month-end and year-end close ownership.
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP and experience preparing or reviewing full financial statements and supporting disclosures.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, documenting, and improving internal controls within a growing or operationally complex organization.
  • Proven ability to manage complex accounting areas independently, exercise strong technical judgment, and resolve issues with minimal oversight.
  • Experience supporting external audits, including preparation of audit schedules, technical memos, and control documentation.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency and strong experience working within ERP systems and integrated financial environments.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, capital-intensive environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in energy, infrastructure, power generation, E&P, or other capital-intensive industries.
  • Exposure to public-company readiness, SOX frameworks, or formalized control environments.
  • Experience with project-based accounting, capitalized cost structures, or large-scale infrastructure deployment.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff or leading cross-functional accounting initiatives.
