Strategy Associate - Legal

Fervo Energy

Fervo Energy

Legal
Houston, TX, USA
Posted on Feb 20, 2026
Description

The Strategy Associate - Legal will work directly with the General Counsel and Legal leadership team to help define and execute the strategic direction of Fervo’s Legal function. This is not a legal practice role and does not require a legal background; it is a high-impact strategy and execution role focused on building from scratch the systems, operating rhythms, and tools that enable the Legal team to scale effectively as the company grows.

In this role, you will take ambiguous, high-level challenges and translate them into structured, data-driven solutions. The Strategy Associate is well suited for someone with a background in consulting, strategy, or operations — or an MBA-level candidate considering law school or future leadership roles — who is energized by building new capabilities, experimenting with emerging technologies (including AI), and working closely with senior leaders in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Requirements

Responsibilities

Legal Strategy & Operating Model

  • Lead high-impact strategic initiatives that improve how the Legal team delivers value, from problem definition through experimentation and iteration.
  • Support strategic planning, goal setting, and performance management across the Legal organization, including defining operating rhythms and priorities.
  • Help translate company-level objectives into clear Legal team goals and execution plans.
  • Track progress against strategic initiatives and surface risks, tradeoffs, and opportunities for leadership

Workflow Design & Process Improvement

  • Diagnose friction points in Legal workflows and design streamlined, scalable processes that improve speed, clarity, and quality.
  • Develop and maintain clear standard work, playbooks, and SOPs that support consistency and scalability.
  • Apply continuous improvement principles to test new approaches, gather feedback, and refine processes over time.
  • Ensure new workflows are practical, adopted, and aligned with how the business actually operates.

Data, Technology & AI Enablement

  • Define the operational and strategic data that matters most for the Legal team and how it should be measured.
  • Build dashboards and reporting tools that provide visibility into workload, throughput, and impact.
  • Evaluate, test, and implement technology and AI tools that improve productivity, insight, and knowledge management.
  • Partner with attorneys to develop AI-ready playbooks and guardrails that enable safe, effective use of new tools.

Executive Communication & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Create clear, compelling executive-level presentations that synthesize complex information into persuasive narratives.
  • Support the General Counsel in framing strategic issues and preparing materials for senior leadership discussions.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure Legal initiatives align with broader company goals and expectations.
  • Act as a connective tissue across teams, helping translate needs, constraints, and priorities into actionable plans.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or other advanced degree a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience in management consulting, strategy, operations, legal operations, or a similar analytical role.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and solve novel problems with minimal guidance. You do not need a set of instructions to execute; you are comfortable defining the path and "writing the playbook" yourself.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, including the ability to synthesize best practices, build methodologies based on empirical evidence, and apply external frameworks to internal needs.
  • Advanced presentation and storytelling skills, with the ability to build clear, compelling executive-level decks.
  • Strong data skills, including comfort working with messy data, building models, and creating dashboards. Demonstrated ability to design structured, data-driven solutions.
  • High level of autonomy, curiosity, and bias toward action in fast-moving environments.
  • Excellent judgment, professionalism, and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Practical experience with generative AI tools (e.g., Claude, Gemini) and advanced prompt engineering. You understand how to apply these tools to accelerate workflows and have a mindset of continuous experimentation to drive productivity.

Preferred

  • Experience in a high-growth startup or rapidly scaling organization.
  • Prior experience in management consulting or internal strategy/operations roles.
  • Familiarity with legal technology tools, document management systems, or workflow platforms.
  • Exposure to Legal tech stack, with strong interest in continuing to build fluency.
  • Experience applying continuous improvement, Lean, or Agile principles.
