Position Description
We are seeking a Data Engineer to join our software and enabling technologies team, supporting the development of advanced surgical planning platforms and AI/ML-driven applications for personalized spine surgery. This role focuses on building robust, compliant data pipelines that enable real-time analytics, clinical insights, and AI-assisted decision-making across the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and transforming medical imaging, surgical planning, and intraoperative data.
- Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, and clinical experts to ensure high-quality, structured datasets for AI/ML model training and predictive analytics.
- Build and optimize data storage solutions that support large-scale medical imaging and patient-specific digital twin models.
- Implement monitoring, testing, and validation frameworks to ensure data integrity, reproducibility, and compliance with FDA, HIPAA, ISO 13485, and IEC 62304 standards.
- Work closely with product owners and clinical stakeholders to translate business and clinical needs into reliable data workflows.
- Support reporting and visualization needs for surgical outcomes and regulatory submissions.
- Drive continuous improvements in data governance, security, and compliance practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Biomedical Informatics, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, preferably in healthcare, medical devices, or other regulated industries.
- Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and familiarity with data frameworks (Spark, Airflow, DBT, etc.). Experience with TypeScript is a plus.
- Experience with cloud-native data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP); knowledge of AWS preferred.
- Familiarity with handling DICOM and medical imaging data; experience in healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR) is a plus.
- Understanding of AI/ML workflows, model deployment, and data pipelines for model training/inference. Experience in feature engineering and familiarity with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch) and ML platforms (SageMaker) is a plus.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.

Compensation
We are pleased to provide a competitive salary and benefits. Our benefits reflect our investment in the overall health and well-being of our employees and their families, including paying 100% of monthly healthcare, dental and vision insurance premiums, a 401(k) plan with employer matching, and unlimited PTO. The expected pay range is: $160,000 to $180,000 annually. Compensation may vary based on related skills, experience, and relevant key attributes.
