Position Description
The Staff Concept Engineer will lead the design, prototyping, and validation of innovative concepts that integrate surgical workflows, imaging, and enterprise systems. This role is dedicated to exploring, maturing, and transitioning early-stage ideas into viable solutions that can progress into product development. Success requires deep technical expertise, rapid prototyping skills, and strong cross-functional collaboration with clinical, product, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of proof-of-concept applications, models, and simulations to evaluate feasibility and clinical utility.
- Collaborate with clinicians, product managers, and engineers to refine requirements and identify unmet needs.
- Establish structured innovation processes—from ideation through technical feasibility, clinical validation, and transition into product development.
- Explore and apply emerging technologies (AI/ML, advanced visualization, generative design, 3D graphics) to surgical planning and workflow solutions.
- Partner with regulatory and quality teams early to anticipate compliance considerations.
- Champion user-centered design and document findings for regulatory, clinical, and business review.
- Mentor junior engineers while fostering a culture of creativity, experimentation, and disciplined execution.
- Deliver validated prototypes on time and ensure effective handoff of selected concepts to development teams.
Skills
- Proven ability to deliver rapid prototypes in cloud, desktop, mobile, or 3D visualization environments.
- Excellent communication skills to translate complex technical ideas for clinical and business audiences.
- Strong system-level thinking to connect disparate technologies into cohesive solutions.
- Ability to balance creative exploration with disciplined execution under regulatory constraints.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.
- Demonstrated facilitation, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of software development experience.
- Familiarity with FDA, HIPAA, ISO 13485/IEC 62304, and medical device software compliance.
- Experience applying AI/ML for imaging, planning, or workflow automation strongly preferred.

Compensation
We are pleased to provide a competitive salary and benefits. Our benefits reflect our investment in the overall health and well-being of our employees and their families. including paying 100% of monthly healthcare, dental & vision insurance premiums, a 401(k) plan with employer matching and unlimited PTO. The expected pay range is: $170,000 to $190,000 annually. Compensation may vary based on related skills, experience, and relevant key attributes.
