Senior Software Engineer - Full Stack
Branch
At Branch, we’re transforming how brands and users interact across digital platforms. Our mobile marketing and deep linking solutions are trusted to deliver seamless experiences that increase ROI, decrease wasted spend, and eliminate siloed attribution. Our Branch team consists of smart, humble, and collaborative people who value ownership over all. Everything we do is centered around creating a great product, team, and company that lives and breathes our motto: Build Together, Grow Together, Win Together.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Technical Team Lead to build and lead our brand-new Links & QR Code engineering team. This is a unique, high-impact opportunity to define the technical vision and build an entirely new product line from the ground up, one that will be central to our company's growth.
You will be the founding technical leader for a high-throughput, high-availability platform similar in scope to other industry leaders. You will act as both a hands-on technical architect and a key strategic partner to Product and Design, translating ambitious ideas into robust, scalable, and delightful user experiences.
This role requires a leader who can balance technical excellence with pragmatic decision-making, driving continuous value for our customers. If you are a hands-on leader who loves the challenge of building new systems and mentoring a talented team, this is the perfect role for you.
What You'll Do
- Lead, Mentor & Coordinate: Recruit, lead, and mentor a new, high-performing team of engineers. Effectively coordinate team members, provide regular, constructive feedback, and advise on complex technical matters to foster their growth and unblock them.
- Architect & Innovate: Own the technical roadmap. Evolve the system architecture to meet future requirements and define key SLOs/SLAs to ensure reliability. You will actively research, create proofs-of-concept (PoCs), and introduce new technologies, driving their adoption within the team.
- Drive Product Strategy: Partner directly with Product Management and Design counterparts to drive the solutioning of new features and an entirely new product line. You will be the key technical voice in defining "what" and "how."
- Lead from the Front: Balance your hands-on technical duties with your project leadership responsibilities. You will understand and work on the most complex technical issues alongside your team, setting the standard for quality.
- Define & Drive Process: Define and refine the right processes for the team’s maturity, balancing agility with discipline. You will be the primary driver for team effectiveness and ensuring predictable, high-quality delivery.
What We're Looking For (Required)
- Proven Technical Leadership: 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2+ years in a Technical Lead, Lead Engineer, or similar role where you were able to lead and coordinate work on the team.
Rapid, Iterative Delivery: A strong bias for action and a pragmatic 'get it done' mindset, with experience leading a team in a rapid, iterative environment focused on shipping customer value early and often (e.g., POCs, MVPs).
- Back-End Expertise: Deep experience in back-end development, with a strong preference for proficiency in one or more of our target languages: Java or Kotlin and Javascript (Node.js) or Typescript and nice to have experience with Go.
- Full-Stack Perspective: You are back-end skewed but have full-stack experience and can comfortably discuss and contribute to front-end architecture and API design.
- Customer-Obsessed: You possess a deep sense of customer empathy and are driven to understand their needs, ensuring that technical solutions are perfectly aligned with creating a delightful and effective user experience.
- Expert Solutioning: A strong portfolio of past work where you were responsible for the technical solutioning of new products or major features in close collaboration with product and design.
- Scalable Systems: Experience designing, building, and maintaining highly available, scalable, and reliable distributed systems and APIs, with a deep understanding of how to evolve architecture for future requirements and define/monitor SLOs/SLAs.
- Process & Quality: Strong knowledge of Agile development methodologies and tools, with the proven ability to define and adapt processes that balance agility and discipline for a growing team.
- Technical Innovation: Experience with researching new technologies, building PoCs, and successfully driving adoption on your team.
- Strong Communicator: Excellent ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ideal & Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Diverse Company Experience: A blend of experience from both fast-paced, ambiguous startup environments and larger, established tech companies (understanding both speed and scale).
- Domain Knowledge: Direct experience in the martech/ad-tech space, or with platforms focused on link management, QR codes, marketing analytics, or high-throughput data ingestion.
- Data & Analytics: Experience building systems that handle real-time analytics and large-scale data processing.
- Cloud-Native: Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS ideally) and modern DevOps practices (Kubernetes, Docker, Infrastructure-as-Code).
- Security & Privacy: Familiarity with data privacy and security compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, SOC 2).
