The Role

In this role, you will design and build the backend systems and infrastructure that power Arta's mission-critical financial services. You'll own services end-to-end, from API design to data models to production reliability, while working extensively with AI coding agents and LLM-based tooling to ship faster and operate at higher leverage than a traditional backend team.

You'll collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and ML engineers to deliver resilient backend services that handle real money, real data, and real users.

What You Will Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and data pipelines that power Arta's investment and wealth management platform

  • Make architectural decisions on system design, data modeling, service boundaries, and infrastructure

  • Write clean, well-tested, observable code, and use AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) as a core part of your daily workflow to accelerate delivery without sacrificing quality

  • Build and integrate LLM and agent-powered backend capabilities where they unlock product value (e.g., automated workflows, intelligent data processing, agent-driven user experiences)

  • Optimize for performance, scalability, and reliability across distributed services

  • Integrate with third-party financial APIs, brokerage systems, market data providers, and cloud infrastructure

  • Set up logging, monitoring, and alerting (Sentry, Datadog, etc.) and participate in on-call and incident response

  • Drive engineering best practices around code review, testing, and evaluation, including evals for any AI/agent-driven systems you ship

  • Partner with product and design to translate ambiguous problems into well-scoped backend solutions

Who You Are

  • At least 6 years of backend software development experience, with strong proficiency in Python (or similar)

  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, RESTful and/or gRPC APIs, microservices, and database systems (SQL and NoSQL)

  • Experience designing for reliability, performance, and security in production environments

  • Fluency with AI coding tools and a track record of using them to materially raise your output and code quality

  • Experience building with LLMs and/or agent frameworks (tool use, function calling, MCP, evals) or strong interest and aptitude to ramp up quickly

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Prior experience in trading platforms, brokerage systems, or financial infrastructure is a big plus, but not a must
